Image Redactor — Black Out Sensitive Details

Cover names, account details, or other visible areas in a JPG, PNG, or WebP image with opaque rectangles. Drag with a mouse or finger, or enter exact pixel coordinates. The browser paints masks into a new flattened file; it does not upload or change the original.

Cover sensitive areas with solid masks

Choose one image, add opaque rectangles, then export a flattened copy. The original file stays unchanged.

Maximum 15 MB and 20 megapixels. Your file is decoded and processed in this browser tab; it is not uploaded.

What this tool helps with

Screenshots shared in bug reports, support requests, and tutorials can reveal names, account numbers, addresses, or messages. A solid opaque mask is easier to verify than blur and removes the covered picture content from the exported copy.

How to use it

  1. Choose one static JPG, PNG, or WebP file up to 15 MB and 20 megapixels.
  2. Drag over every private area, or open the coordinate controls and add a mask using the source image's pixel positions.
  3. Choose an opaque fill color and create a flattened PNG or JPEG copy.
  4. Inspect the complete result at full size before sharing it; the tool cannot find missed details for you.

Requirements

A modern browser with image decoding, Pointer Events, Canvas, and Blob export support. Supported files are static JPG, PNG, and WebP images. No account or API is used.

Limits and privacy

This is a manual masking tool, not OCR or automatic PII detection. It cannot ensure you selected every sensitive region. The output is newly rendered and flattened, but the tool does not certify all metadata removal or provide forensic sanitization. JPEG re-encoding may change image quality; PNG may be larger. Inspect the full exported image, keep the original private, and do not rely on this tool for legal, medical, or other certified redaction. Inputs are processed locally in this browser. The site does not provide an upload endpoint for this tool.

Frequently asked questions

Is my image uploaded?

No. The image is decoded, displayed, masked, and exported in this browser tab. The site does not provide an image upload endpoint.

Why use a solid mask instead of blur?

A solid opaque rectangle is easier to inspect and does not leave recognizable fine detail under a blur effect. It still only covers the pixels inside the mask; check the entire result for other copies or missed areas.

Can the tool find names or account numbers automatically?

No. You choose each region manually. The tool uses no OCR, face recognition, or AI detection.

Does this certify that all private information is gone?

No. It flattens the visible image with your masks but cannot detect mistakes, inspect every metadata field, or provide forensic assurance. Review the exported copy before sharing.
